Kate Flannery

  • KATE FLANNERY

Kate played Meredith, the accident-prone, drunken tart on all nine seasons of NBC’s THE OFFICEand for some actresses that would have been enough. Not Kate. She’s gotta put on a red polyester jumpsuit and sing like a maniac in front of a live audience on a regular basis in her original comedy lounge act, THE LAMPSHADES. TV audiences know her as the host of TVGuide Network’s all-female standup show, STAND UP IN STILETTOS.

Kate’s a Philadelphia native from a big family of seven kids. A bar owner’s daughter, she was lucky enough to start her career in Chicago where she ran with the finest group of funny people in show business. She worked in the Second City National Touring Company, in Del Close’s Improv Olympic and the Annoyance Theater where she did a ton of shows like  the MISS VAGINA PAGEANT and THE REAL LIVE BRADY BUNCH (which she toured with to over 30 cities). She won critical acclaim and more importantly the approval of her drag queen friend playing Neely O’Hara in L.A. at The Coast Playhouse and Off-Broadway at the Circle in the Square in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. She used to sing with John “They Might Be Giants” Flansburg’s other band, Mono Puff. Kate’s been the voice of Wendy on Wendy’s Hamburger spots. She can be seen each December in a Hallmark Christmas movie, THE CHRISTMAS PAGEANT with Melissa Gilbert. Kate played Harper’s mom on Disney Channel’s WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE (and Scot Robinson plays her dad!).

She is currently Jane Lynch’s sidekick in her anti-cabaret act, SEE JANE SING. Kate also stars in the HBO short EMERGENCY CONTACT and indie films DIAL A PRAYER with Brittany Snow; the Sundance hit, COOTIES with Elijah Wood; the Toronto and Los Angeles Outfest Audience award-winner, FOURTH MAN OUT; and the soon-to-be-released Tribeca films, TENURED and SLOW LEARNERS. Kate also played Annie Sullivan in Comedy Central’s ANOTHER PERIOD.

Kate is a writer and a Gemini so if you see her in June, wish her happy birthday. @kateflannery on Twitter. If you wanna see her whole resume and comment on it go to Kate’s IMDB page. And if you want a Meredith Bobblehead, too bad, they’re sold out—try eBay, sucka!
